What is reality? Does reality exist?

I was doing some day-dreaming at work and thinking about the idea of how two people can see same event, yet interpret and experience it differently. Then the question popped up: What is reality?

.... Does reality exist?

My answer?? I'm going to argue that reality in fact exists but it is never known in its ultimate and truest from. Agents in this world experience reality with their own views and biases, hence everyone's perception of reality is different.

Reality exists, but one will never capture its purest form.... no one knows what true reality is. I'm going to make my claim stronger that it is impossible for any agent in this world to know what true reality is.

  1. I've often thought in this exact line of thinking! Perhaps, I, too, will write up a blog post about this. :P

I also don't think that anyone in this world can really know what reality truly is. Only God has the depth of knowledge and understanding required to fully comprehend the objective nature of reality in our world (the world He created).

  2. Death is eternal truth everything else is fake. This is reality and when a soul comes in terms with it only then the human can break the shackles of life and attain real salvation.

  4. I really like the way you differentiate between "perceived reality" and "true reality". It's not that one version of reality is any less real than another (with exceptions of course), but the fact that it is a "perceived reality" explain the relativity of it. This type of reality is completely dependent on the perception of your so-called "agent". I guess it's like using several different cameras to take pictures of the exact same scene. Slightly different photographs would be developed due to differences in each camera's setting, lens, resolution, brand, etc... The point is each picture is a representation of the real thing, or reality. While we're on the topic of perception, do you think that the colour that you know as "blue" would appear the same to me as it does to you? Maybe to me, what you see as "blue" is actually purple O.O

  5. Reading this reminds me of a lecture that I had in my communications class about theory based on observations. It was a parable about six people who each perceive the situation at hand differently causing them to each have a different perspective about the situation. I believe that everyone may have different views on reality because everyone's reality is different from the next person. There is not absolute definition to reality and what it consists because it is based upon the subconscious schemas that each individual hold. Reality for one may be based upon family and love ones while another may base it on wealth and fame. I personally think that the reality for everyone may be different at most points, but when the race to the end is achieved, everyone will have completed the same set of check points throughout the race.
